THANK MUSE IT'S FRIDAY OPEN!

Thank Muse It's Friday is now closed for prompts. Thanks to everyone who participated. I'm still working on your pieces and I will send them to you as soon as I'm done writing them and doing one last check for errors.

What is Thank Muse It's Friday?

In a similar vein to ysabetwordsmith's Poetry Fishbowl, Thank Muse It's Friday is a prompt-and-writing session. It is one part writing exercise, one part audience builder, and hopefully one part money maker.

This month the theme is “I Need A Hero.”

How does it work?

It's very easy. Leave me a prompt or prompts in the comment section below. I'll pick one and give you some words in the form of a poem, prose, or demi-fiction. Primarily I use the PM system here on Dreamwidth for that but that is not avaliable or not working for some reason, I will e-mail it to you. I promise not to keep anyone's e-mail address afterward.

The prompt call lasts at least twenty-four hours from time of first posting at about 8 AM US Eastern Time on 7/29/2016.

Which universes to I do write in?

{A} I have a number of imaginary friends who are hoping for some time on stage in front of a non-me audience. Prompts that don't specify a setting will feature one of them.

{B} So far my original series include: 'Ohana, about an interracial cross-orientation polyfamily, the Garden which features the larger community that 'Ohana live in (currently listed with 'Ohana), and the newest Capes and Masks, a superhero setting.

{C} The Berettaflies thread for Polychrome Heroics.

{D} I'm open to writing fiction or demi-fiction for Ysabetwordsmith or Dialecticdreamer's open settings. The resulting pieces will be sent to them as well as the prompter since it is their sandbox.

{E} Fan Fic prompts are also welcomed. I have too many fandoms to list here. Ask anyway and if's not one I've seen/read, I'll need either a good premier and some extra time or an alternative. We'll work it out.

The Theme

As aforementioned, this month's theme is “I Need A Hero.”

I'm soliciting ideas for superheroes, superheras, capes of no particular or both genders, ethical supervillains, ordinary folks doing heroic things, everyday heroes, doing the right thing, standing up for others, standing up for yourself, saving the world, saving others, saving yourself, and anything else that fits the theme.

Anything else?

{1} For the first time, I'm set up for donations. Note that donations are NOT required nor is any particular amount. But any funds you want to kick my way are very much appreciated.

{2} I'd still like constructive feedback. It is not required but appreciated since one of the points of these sessions is to improve and expand my writing skills.

{3} Signal boosting is also very much appreciated.

{4} Please let me know if you have donated or boosted the signal or both because you have earned yourself a second prompt fill.

{5} To help prevent me from missing anyone and keeping track of needed thank yous for signal boosts and such, I make a list of prompts, boosters, etc. If I managed to miss you despite this precaution, please send me a message.

Thank Muse It's Friday Open!

Thank Muse It's Friday is now closed! Thank you everyone for participation.

What I am babbling about again?

In a similar vein to ysabetwordsmith's Poetry Fishbowl and dialecticdreamer's Monday Magpie, Thank Muse It's Friday is a prompt-and-writing session. I'm doing this as a writing exercise to expand my skills as well as build an audience.

The theme is “Friendship is Magic.”

How it works?

It's very easy. Leave me some suggestions in the comment section below, I'll pick one and give you some words in the form of a poem, prose, or demi-fiction via PM or e-mail if the PM doesn't work for some reason. I will not keep your e-mail address afterward in those cases.

The prompt call lasts for twenty-four hours from the time of first posting. This session was opened at 04:00 PM 6/17/2016 US Eastern Time Zone and therefore will close at 4:00 PM 6/18/2016. I cannot promise that all prompts will be filled within that time frame but trust that they will be filled as fast as I can.

{1} Currently, I'm not asking for donations. What I'm asking for is prompts, constructive feedback, and signal boosts. You don't have to do any of those but I really appreciate it if you would.

{2} The results of one prompt will be posted up on the blog for everyone to enjoy after the prompters have gotten their pieces. It may be one of those pieces or an extra one from an extra prompt.

{3} To help prevent me from missing anyone and keeping track of needed thank yous for signal boosts and such, I make a list of prompts, boosters, etc. If I managed to miss you despite this precaution, please send me a message.

{4} Signal boosters are guaranteed a second prompt fill so let me know that you have boosted the signal, please.

Also!

{1} [personal profile] dialecticdreamer made a link-back story for this session that she will be adding to based on some prompts she has received. Be sure to check it out.

First of all, let me thank [personal profile] ysabetwordsmith[personal profile] siliconshaman[personal profile] dialecticdreamer, and [personal profile] redsixwing for their prompts. I also thank [personal profile] ysabetwordsmith  and [personal profile] dialecticdreamer  for linking back.

The theme was “A Promise is a Promise.”

I opened the call at around 2 AM US Eastern Standard Time and worked on and off until just after closing it at around midnight. In that time I wrote 4 poems and 1 short story for a total of 3,162 words.

The Results

Original:

A Net of Promises” – A prompt made by [personal profile] ysabetwordsmith  resulted in a free-verse poem about family's decision to have children. 304 words in 37 lines.

“Felt Like A Broken Promise” – A prompt made by [personal profile] dialecticdreamer resulted in the free-verse poem about a young man and the beginning of his re-connection to a lost family member. 471 words in 63 lines.

“White Feathers” – A prompt made by [personal profile] redsixwing resulted in a free-verse re-telling of the Japanese folktale Tsuru no Ongaeshi or The Crane's Return of Favor. The longest poem I have ever written. 964 words in 131 lines.

Fan Fic:

“I Mean What I Said and I Said What I Meant” – A prompt made by [personal profile] ysabetwordsmith resulted in short story from the point of view of Steve Rogers. His view on promises is 70 years out of date and he does not care. Set in “Love is For Children” verse. 838 words.

“The Name You Chose” – A prompt made by [personal profile] siliconshaman resulted in a free-verse poem character study about The Doctor. It isn't very cheerful because from what I've read The Doctor has been through a lot in the last several years and it shows. First Doctor Who fic. I'm hoping I get write something happier for this universe at some point. 585 words in 91 lines.

Series!

“A Net of Promises” and “Felt Like A Broken Promise” are part of the 'Ohana series. It is about an interacial polyfamily – their birth families rejected them so they made their own family. Slice of life, romance, hurt/comfort.

One Final Thought

I've noticed that the more I write, the longer my stuff gets.
