Poem: Hungry for A Story
by shiori_makiba / Ashley Weyer
Inspired by prompts from brides_koneko and
capri0mni for the November Creative Jam.
“Hungry for a Story”
For many, stories are food.
Not for the body but for the soul.
Books are its' refrigerator.
Libraries are it's food pantry and soup kitchen.
Bookstore are its market.
What kind of food depends on the person.
For some, stories are junk food.
They are the bag of potato chips, just opened and this bag is all yours.
They are the popcorn, newly popped and covered in your favorite topping.
Your favorite soft drink, chill to perfection and just right.
For others, the stories are the main course.
It's the hot, rich soup that warms you when you are cold.
It's the plate of yummy goodness just like grandma used to make.
It's the crisp salad, filled with delightful crunch.
It's the glass of lemonade in the summer and hot cocoa in winter.
In both, stories can be desert.
Perhaps is the cookies, still warm and gooey from the oven.
Or maybe it is the ice cream, cold and creamy in its little bowl.
For others, stories are something best shared.
With your friends, it is the fruit fresh from the vine,
some of it sweet and some of it tart.
Around a campfire, it is the toasted marshmallows and roasted weenies.
In the break room, it is the water, cool and refreshing,
or the cuppa, fresh brewed and piping hot.
By the elder's knee, it is the bread, warm and soft and made by hand.
Yeah, some of it might not be the healthiest stuff but it tastes so good.
And sometimes you just got to feed your soul.
EDIT: Grammar fix
EDIT: New stanza - thanks to capriuni. :)
